Welcome to Sunday morning Coffee Chat time!
Today’s guest is Lyssa Lane!
Welcome Lyssa! I love that name! It just sounds so pretty!? So glad you could join us today!
LL: Hi Stacy! I?m a big fan of your books so it?s an honor to be interviewed by you today.
Thank you, Lyssa!? I’m so looking forward to your interview today, so let’s get started! First we have to know, Coffee or Tea?
LL: Neither?hot chocolate unless we?re talking cold sweet tea.
lol… Well way to be different there lady!? We know you?re an author, but do you work another job when you are not writing?
LL: I do have a day job, two actually! My full-time job is in the field of recreation and the other is an adjunct professor at a local university.
Wow! And I thought I was busy! What is your favorite thing to do when you aren?t writing or working?
LL: Spend time with my energetic two-year-old so that means swimming, going to the park, reading, and of course, watching Froze as we call it at our house
lol… Gotta love two-year-olds! What is your favorite color? Why?
LL: I love turquoise?so bright and cheerful, my ten-year-old niece turned me on to it.
I love that color, too! What is your favorite season?
LL: Hmm?this is a tough one as it changes with each season! I think it would have to be autumn though?the weather is cool but not chilly, it?s the beginning of the school year and who doesn?t love new starts plus it brings back memories of Friday night football games in high school.?
Now there is a blast from the past – Friday night football games. My daughter just made the cheerleading squad, I guess I have football games again in my future, lol… If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?
LL: Somewhere with less humidity?I don?t know where that is.
Other than writing, what do you have a passion for?
LL: Sharing my story of our infertility journey. We struggled for two years to get pregnant with our daughter. It?s not an easy road to travel and I want other women to know they?re not alone.
OMG! I’m so glad you brought that out! I love when people reach out to help others with something difficult that they have gone through. That’s why I work with Domestic Violence! Bravo to you!? And so glad you have your daughter!? So let’s get into your writing. How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?
LL: Well I?ve been blogging since 2008 but I first started romance writing last fall. It was a bit of a combination of all of that. I?d read a few indie authors and decided I could do that so I started writing. It started as a hobby then my goal was to get my book published. I definitely won?t be quitting my day job any more but my goal is just to have readers fall in love with my characters as much as I do.
Very cool, how many hours a day do you devote to writing?
LL: Not as much as I?d like!
I feel your pain! Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?
LL: Once I start a story, I try to write every day until it?s ?done.? I say ?done? because is your story ever done? As an author, you know it?s constantly changing! First I write to get all my ideas out and an outline then I go back and edit, edit, edit!
The bane of our existance, editing… sigh… Is there some place special you like to be when you write?
LL: Usually in my big comfy chair in our living room.
Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?
LL: I need quiet?which my daughter and husband have no concept of!
hahahahah – I hear that! Let’s talk about a book you have written, what is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?
LL: My debut novella is Love is a Fire and it?s the first in my Burning Lovesick series.
I love series books, where did the idea come from?
LL: I thought it had come to me from watching too much Grey?s Anatomy and Rescue Me. After my sister read the book, she called me and said all she could think about was me crying at the end of the movie Backdraft when I was in third grade. Apparently this story has been with me that long!
Holy cow! I remember that movie!? And now I own the book, so I can’t wait to read the story! What is it about?
LL: Dr. Katy Malone has lost everyone she?s ever loved so she?s decided to give up on love and focus on her career. Firefighter Nick Garrity loves the thrill of his job and is looking for Mrs. Right. When the proby firefighter ends up in the care of Dr. Malone, Nick is convinced that she?s his future wife. Will he convince her to love again?
It sounds so good!? I can’t wait to read it! Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?
LL: I am currently polishing up the sequel, Burst Into Flame. I am also working on a story I wrote in Rachelle Ayala?s #romanceinamonth class back in May called The Right Pitch. It is very different than the Burning Lovesick series. I trade in sexy firefighters for sexy baseball players.
lol… I know Rachelle! She’s a sweetie!!! Very cool Lyssa!? I’m so glad you came to join us today!? It was a pleasure having you!
